Hi. Can you tell me more about Barbara. Last night I watched a 1985 video she did with Alan Steinfeld, a walking tour of the East Village. I used to bounce around the east and west village around that time and it was interesting to watch. The video had been edited with comments and I saw that she had a very short life. I wanted to know more about her.
In many ways, Barbra's life paralleled the life of the East Village. If you were young, it was like Paris in the '20's. I never met so many original and truly creative people in one place and like Barbra, they brought the neighborhood to life. Today the East Village (like Barbra) is gone. It's a giant NYU dormitory that starts on 14 street and stretches down to Houston. But, at least, she got to experience a magical time in a magical place (which makes her a magical person.)

ReplyDeleteJust thought to check back here - 2 years plus later! I'm the first 'unknown' above. Thanks very much for that pointer!
